Soneva Kiri launching air service to Angkor Wat

Ankor_by_Cat_Vinton_1001 SONEVA KIRI is launching a twice-weekly flight by private plane to Siem Reap in Cambodia, home to the captivating world heritage site of Angkor Wat. The service will begin November 16, 2014.   The new service comprises flights to Siem Reap and back every Sunday and Wednesday with brief stops on the ground at Trat airport to clear Thai customs and immigration. Average flight time is 50 to 60 minutes.

“This adds an enticing new dimension to holidays at Soneva Kiri,”says Graham Grant, Soneva Kiri’s newly appointed general manager, who expects the new service and fast-tracked customs escort will prove popular with guests. It is also our aim to attract customers, who are doing their ‘Cultural Grand Indo China Tour’, too – the ‘trip of a lifetime’ types who are doing Luang Prabang, Angkor Wat, and perhaps onto Vietnam or Burma.

“This way, they can treat themselves to a few days after their grand tour or come to Soneva Kiri beforehand to revitalize energy levels before embarking on the full immersions of amazing antiquities and temple ruins.

Ankor_Wat_detail2_by_Cat_Vinton1001“We fly much lower (10-12,000 feet) than commercial flights – so the views are dramatic. The journey carries you across an endless, infinitely detailed carpet of jungle, giving passengers a rare glimpse of the lush beauty in anticipation of the famous landmark temples like Bayon, Tha Phrom and Angkor Wat.

“This really is the sort of trip where the destination is the journey. And the journey just became an infinitely more pleasurable experience with attentive personal service for which the Soneva brand is renowned.”

The price is $650 plus taxes for adults and children over 12 and $325 plus taxes for children under 12s – with an opening offer until Dec. 20 of $450 plus taxes per head. A private charter for up to eight people is also possible.

A couple things worth noting:

Cambodian law states that all visitors must spend at least one night in Cambodia – so day return trips are not possible; because the service operates as a charter flight, Airport authority approvals are required in advance, with the result that bookings must be therefore confirmed 30 days in advance or the flight will be removed from sale; Thai visas are not available at Trat airport so need to be secured in advance; flight schedules have limited availability and seats are confirmed on a first-come/first-served basis.
